Day 5: The Cafe
Breakfast was wrapped up pretty quickly this morning, so we could head down to the camp playground again. Seth happily waddled around the park, and both he and Rach had fun ejecting their shoes out of the playground tunnel port-holes.
Afterwards, we drove into town and did a main street driveby in search of early lunch options – lots of things were actually closed today. We pulled up between Cherry Tree Cafe and Gum Tree Pies with the intention of picking one or the other. The cafe looked very busy and when Rach asked “Do they have pancakes?” and Sarah showed the Google result for The Riverbank Cafe being a picture of pancakes, then our fate was pretty much sealed.
The staff were great, plenty of space and food was delicious – making for a very good outing/decision. The first time I’d had a second coffee in a day (an iced long black) and my face was buzzing. Seth went well feeding himself a babycino and dipping his chips in sauce. Rach especially liked the “chocolate jelly” (topping) on hers. Seth picked up his chip basket and began looking over his shoulder for a staff member to take away the completed item. Hilarious!
Post lunch we visited the big playground again and Seth attacked all the climbs and Rachael got up the courage to take on the big slides; she’s previously been a bit too scared. It was hard to drag her away from them in the end!
Back at the cabin, Seth napped and Rachael and Dad went to the pool where Dad did more stick diving under the command of Rachael, but we did also get to do some relaxing time too. Back to the cabin and then back to the playground. The kangaroo hopper had the most kids so far and it was pretty hectic. Charlie left shortly after and later was at the pool. Rach wanted to go see and then when we visited, wanted to get back into swim gear to be in the pool with Charlie. I told her they’d be finished by the time we went back to the cabin, got changed and returned. She was persistent in asking and pleading, so we did so. They were of course wrapping up when we returned. We still did another session anyway. Rach was gracious in defeat and we still had a good time, apart from being spooked by some bees that had been displaced from their flowers by the running sprinkler.
We stopped at Daniel’s cabin when we saw Sarah and Seth on their deck having a chat. The kids played together there and had some watermelon. A staff lady dropped in to announce that a COVID positive case was at the camp yesterday – one of the army groups that had taken camp in the unpowered sites behind our cabin. The common area was taped off. Later, dinner of calamari rings pan-fried with oil of table spread and some spiral pasta for all signalled the scrappy end of our food supplies – not bad though. Seth had a very saucy beard from “shoving” as I call it – he literally palms food into his face. Bath and bed, Rach calling it slightly early once again.
