Bluesfest 2013 – The Journey Begins

9108237Tuesday night, after work, we drove to Tom’s house in Moonee Ponds where Erin had prepared a burrito dinner for us all! It was amazing and much needed fuel for the 4 hour drive to Albury. We collected Sarah and hit the road. I used most of the time to create a playlist on Glenn’s iPod of selected tracks from ‘A’ to ‘P’. All went smoothly and we found our Albury hotel, key under mat.

It was an early rise the next day and an entire day of driving. We knew we were in NSW once the footy fields had changed to rugby fields. Glenn’s iPod had some sort of shuffle bug where it played ‘Chop Suey’ by Richard Cheese no less that 5 times. No other track repeated twice. We got a little hopped up on confectionery and energy drinks. We set up camp in Yamba that night in the dark. Headlamps ahoy! Once set up, we enjoyed a nice pasta dinner on the boot of Glenn’s car from one of my two pre-prepared 3kg pasta buckets. There were mosquitoes everywhere! Sarah got quite severely bitten during the night.

We had a fantastic breakfast in the slow moving Yamba, got some bread from the bakery and then made the final 1.5 hour trip to Byron Bay.

After a 1747km journey spanning 3 days we arrived at Byron Bay’s Bluesfest 2013!

All was going fine until we got pulled aside and the car thoroughly checked by a sniffer dog. In the car, the dog messed up our Yamba bakery bread quite badly. The cops were certain we were carrying. When they couldn’t find anything they quizzed Glenn as to whether he was shelving. He was glad the inspection didn’t go that far!

Once in, we laboured setting up camp in the blazing heat.

The festival setup here is amazing!!
