Geelong River Run 2015 – 10KM
I was crippled with stomach aches at the start line, but I had been training too long for this to give up now. Something I ate? Breakfast too late? I don’t know. I took off with the rest of the starters and the heat and humidity became immediately apparent. The 4th km approached and my stomach was threatening to stop me completely. I spotted the toilet block off the track, across the grass and had to partake.
“A quick break!?” a lady at the drink station commented when I rejoined the track. I couldn’t think of any non-graphic reply so responded with an awkward “Haha, yeah”.
Then the sky cleared, the hot sun came out and took some humidity with it.
The rest of the run went pretty well, but I did have to stop and stretch twice towards the end. All this training lately made for some tight legs. The heart was strong, so the limitation of tight legs was a little frustrating at times.
I crossed the finish line and felt pretty good. I took my traditional two bottles of water (one disappears immediately and the other one gets “enjoyed”).
Despite all these bad conditions, it was still quite fun. Why?
Overcoming some adversity and the free endorphins, I suppose.
See you next year!
