Running Geelong 6KM
Under-trained and returning from injury, I decided to play it safe with the 6km variant of the run. I did agonize over the decision between 6km and 12km, but was glad I chose the lesser in the end. I am now working up to some bigger run events in early next year.
Spirits were high as we took off near Geelong’s newly minted floating Christmas tree (or Coney Island, as I call it). A drone flew over head and captured all the action of the climb up Moorabool St. It was a very warm day for running and there was very little shade around the course. I did enjoy the shade from about 4 trees though the botanic gardens section of the course, but that was all there was for the entire thing! It was a bit of a push uphill through the last kilometer, but I managed to keep rolling and got though the race in pretty good nick.
At the finish line there was a really funky local band called The Kite Machine. Along with lots of free watermelon and bottles of water they were a sweet reward for completing the run.
When Sarah came through the finish line, she instinctive knew that she would find me soaking in the sweet jams that could be heard. Correct. There I was.
We went to a housewarming later in the day and continued to soak in the sunny day, but this time in a more comfortable setting – with a couple of beers!
