Oktoberfest: Schottenhamel Tent
Wednesday 30th September – Schottenhamel Tent
A quiet session with Sarah in the Spaten fueled tent.
We managed to get seats in the non-reserved area behind the band stage and were very promptly served an ice cold beer! Some food was needed, and thankfully by this stage I was fairly competent at reading menus. I ordered the “3 MAL BAYERN”: Kalbfleischpflanzerl, Leberkäs und Münchner Rostbrotwürstl mit Kartoffelstampf! In short, a mixed grill of veal schnitzel, Leberkäs (a thick slice of meatloaf that has the consistency of a hot dog), Bratwursts and mashed potato. After all that was promptly destroyed, it was time for another beer.
The band seemed to have a pattern of alternating between playing a set of 3 songs and having a 20 minute break. They seemed to be breaking more often than playing, it was quite unusual. I can’t say that they were conserving energy either because as far as I know the traditional band is replaced with a more modern rock band to continue the night’s festivities.
Sarah was not feeling too well, as had been the case for a few days, and the end of my second beer started to taste a bit pissy. We finished up and bailed.
